Ford Claims New Fusion Will Outdo Toyota Camry Hybrid

Let the hybrid battle begin! Competitors today include the new Ford Fusion Hybrid and the new Toyota Camry Hybrid- both of which are available right here at Cheyenne Spradley Barr Motors, located at 2200 Westland Road Cheyenne, WY 82001. Ford has really come out fighting in this hybrid battle; the American automaker recently challenged the Toyota Camry Hybrid in terms of fuel economy.

While both vehicles boast excellent fuel economy ratings, Ford says its newest 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid model will achieve an amazing 47 mpg in the city and 44 mpg on the highway. The current new Camry achieves just under that- at 43 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway. Toyota remains the world's largest seller of hybrid vehicles due to its Toyota Prius family, but Ford and other automakers are hoping they can have a bigger slice of the market soon- especially since it has put enough research into hybrids to patent 461 new technologies/components. As Wes Sherwood, spokesperson for Ford, reports, "By 2020, Ford expects hybrids, plug-in vehicles and models powered solely by electricity to account for 10% to 25% of global sales. The 2013 hybrid Fusion will go on sale in the second half of this year."1 Toyota, for its part, has more than two-thousand patents for its hybrids, including more than 1,000 for the current Toyota Prius line, and as Alan Ohnsman of Bloomburg reports, "The Prius hatchback is rated by the U.S. as getting 51 mpg. city and 48 mpg highway, or 50 mpg combined, the highest such rating for any non-rechargeable auto."2

So, which automaker wins this prestigious battle? Spradley Barr Motors thinks it might be too soon to tell, but we know from experience both vehicles are fantastic. If you'd like to see them for yourself, be sure to stop by and visit!
