Mazda Unveiling SkyActiv Tech

"The 2012 MAZDA3 will have the Skyactiv-G 2.0-litre gasoline engine with the Skyactiv-Drive six-speed automatic transmission (or) the Skyactiv-MT six-speed manual transmission mounted onto a current vehicle platform in order to make Mazda's latest technologies available to customers as quickly as possible," according to Mazda PR rep Sandra Lemaitre.1

Sandra presented the brand new SkyActiv technology from Japan's automaker recently, and everyone at Spradley Barr Motors in Cheyenne, WY is excited! SkyActiv Technology will come standard in all Mazda vehicles within 2 years.

Mazda discovered most energy loss with internal combustion engines is thermal: via exhaust, cooling system, engine and transmission surfaces. Mazda's SkyActive engine reduces combustion length, weight and internal engine friction. The auto maker also designed pistons with special crowns.

Those initiatives combined with the 4-2-1 exhaust manifold help this new motor move hot gases away from the engine, increasing thermal efficiency.

The driver receives greater torque and possible fuel economy improvements of up to 15%.
